Tarmageddon

Andrew Nikiforuk is a righteous Canadian journalist. In his report “Tarmageddon”, he indicated that Canada is encountering a series of environmental, economical and political problems because of the rapid exploitation of tar sands in Alberta. In the past, Canada was regarded as a decent "do-gooder" democracy due to its rich and unexploited natural resource. However, with rapid development of tar sands, Canada is turning into a corrupt "petro-state" and deducing its reputation in the world. As Nikiforuk wrote in the report, in order to maximize governments' interest, Canada strengthened the development of the oil products, and finally bring environmental degradation to the local area. Nikiforuk also made some specific example like the size of open pit mines and emissions of the polluted gas to describe the serious environmental damage. What's worse, Canada government still didn't even fully realize the big destruction they made to the world climate and take responsibilities of controlling this energy project. In my option, it is irresponsible for Canada government to downplay the magnitude of this crisis. Excessive exploitation of tar sands and failing to protect the environment are definitely false. Canada is a beautiful and clean country, not another Saudi Arabia. I believe sustainable development in the exploitation of natural resource is what Canada is looking for.

Question: It is inevitable for Canada government to promote sustainable development. Do you have any suggestions to Canada government?

In the mean time of developing, they should also increase the investment in green energy.
